Layout Design

The room incorporating the layout is 12 by 20 feet, with one door at its entrance.  It was built as part of my custom home construction with the model railroad in mind, but also allowing for easy conversion to a hobby room, family room, or other bonus room at a later date.

The model railroad represents (very loosely) the portion of the Rio Grande Southern running between Ridgway at the northernmost terminus where it connects to the Denver and Rio Grande Western to the south ending at Rico.

Stations to be modeled are Ridgway, Brown, Ophir, and Rico, with the Butterfly mine being a goal, also.

The model railroad starts at a lower level staging yard, transitioning in to Ridgway, then around the room to Brown, looping back over two trestles to Ophir, then looping back and over another trestle before ending in Rico.  Rico contains a wye and the Pro Patria mine.
